FAQ's

Where is Mola Hoods outdoor apparel made?

Mola Hoods clothing is handmade in Richmond, Vermont. Every piece is cut and sewn locally, making it truly Vermont-made outdoor apparel. Producing in Richmond, VT reduces transportation emissions and ensures ethical, small-batch manufacturing instead of overseas factory production.

What are deadstock fabrics and why does Mola use them?

Deadstock fabrics are leftover technical materials from larger production runs that would otherwise go unused. Mola uses these fabrics to create sustainable outdoor gear while preventing waste. Because production happens one garment at a time, we can also use factory seconds and aged materials that larger brands discard, reducing landfill impact and supporting zero-waste fashion.

Is Mola Hoods gear PFAS-free?

Yes, Mola Hoods gear is PFAS-free. Polartec eliminated PFAS chemicals from their fabrics years ago, and all deadstock materials sourced through them are free of PFAS. Any new materials used are also non-toxic and free from harsh chemical treatments and PFAS.

Does Mola Hoods sell through retailers?

Mola primarily sells direct-to-consumer through this website. I will selectively partner with independent area shops that align with the same mountain-focused values, but you will not find Mola products in big box retail stores. This model keeps production intentional and supports local economies.

What makes a sun hoodie better than a regular hoodie for hiking?

All sun hoodies, and jersey's are designed for high-output outdoor activity. Mola sun hoodies use lightweight, breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics with UPF sun protection to prevent overheating during hiking & mountain biking, and are quick dry for lake activities like sailing & kiting. The athletic fit and fabrics used improves airflow and movement compared to traditional cotton pieces.

Is Mola suitable for backcountry touring & skiing/riding?

Yes. Mola base and midlayers are designed specifically for the backcountry. Breathable fleece fabrics with targeted zoning allows you to dump heat while skinning uphill and dry quickly to prevent chilling during transitions. Regularly tested in Vermont’s Green Mountains and the Adirondacks, these layers are built for high-output winter travel.

How does made-to-order benefit the customer?

Made-to-order production reduces overproduction and waste while improving garment quality. Because each piece is made after you order it, attention stays on fit, stitching durability, and long-term performance. This slow fashion model results in custom-fit outdoor gear built to last for years of rugged use.

How long does it take to receive a Mola Hoods order?

The typical Mola Hoods turnaround time is approximately four weeks. Each item is handmade in Vermont, and this production window ensures quality control before shipping. Turnaround times may be shorter in summer (July–September) and longer during peak winter season (November–February).
