The Ripstop Pants are a great all around pant. The design features that make these targeted for Mountain biking is the tapered fit, the breathability of this fabric, and the added Zip interior pocket.
 
The ripstop makes these a step up in durability but they are also Quick dry, soft, & 4-way stretch. These have tall, large pockets so your items stay in them for between laps. They are made from a Poly/Spandex blend and are meant to withstand both time on the trails or in the lake.
 
Although they were originally designed for Mountain Biking, they will serve you well as a layer for hiking, climbing, or sailing.
